NARICT PROTOTYPE PLANT FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ADHESIVES AND BINDERS FOR APPLICATION IN LEATHER SHOES, WOOD, PAPER, TEXTILE, PAINTS/COATINGS AND ALLIED PRODUCTS.

The chemical adhesive which is about 90% Local Raw Materials is formulated to improve the quality of made in Nigeria Shoes and its allied products such as Upholstery and garments products. The type of adhesive that is available in the market are adulterated, and once water touched the shoes the bonds break causing the shoes to disintegrate.
Market survey in Nigeria shows that most adhesives are formulated with petroleum-based materials. However, they can also be obtained from renewable raw materials such as polylactic acid, proteins, natural rubber, starch, or cellulose and other plant extracts.
This industry-based research was born out of a request placed by the National Association of Small-Scale Industrialists (NASSI) and the Leather Products Manufacturers Association of Abia State (LEPMAAS) to develop first made in Nigeria adhesive from renewable raw materials for various application.
