NARICT NARICT Receives FMH Delegation on Laboratory Assessment Tour

On Thursday, February 20th, 2025, the Analytical Service Unit of the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology, Zaria, hosted a three-person delegation from the Ministry of Health (FMH) for a facility inspection tour and interaction with our analysts. The visitors were officially welcomed by the DG/CEO, Dr. Kabiru Mu’azu, who was represented by Dr. Zaharaddeen Sani Gano (Director Research) at the Institute’s Boardroom..

The delegation indicated that the NARICT laboratories had already been captured in a laboratory mapping exercise conducted by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMH) in collaboration with the United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The laboratories were captured to assess their capability to handle chemical and toxicological analysis. The team indicated that they were here primarily to physically inspect the NARICT’s laboratory facilities to ensure that the data captured in the mapping was accurate. Successfully mapped laboratories would form key points of contact in cases of public health emergencies.

The Acting DG/CEO welcomed them, indicating that Dr. K. Mu'azu was extremely pleased with their visit and would have welcomed them personally but for a last-minute change to his schedule. He indicated that NARICT was open to partnering with the FMH and being of service whenever the need arises. He went on to mention that NARICT laboratories were capable of numerous analyses, highlighting the NMDPRA-accredited Fuel Testing Laboratory, among others.

“The delegation was taken around the laboratories by the Head of the Analytical Services Unit, Dr. Aliyu Maikano, accompanied by the Desk Officer, Mr. Yusuf Usman, alongside some other key personnel in the unit. The delegation interacted extensively with various analysts and was highly impressed with the cleanliness of facilities, the state of equipment, and the professionalism demonstrated by the analysts.”

The visiting team lauded the Institute's efforts and would communicate with NARICT when their assignments were completed. .
