The National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), Zaria, on Thursday, 20th August 2026, hosted researchers from iDiv, who visited to explore collaboration opportunities in biodiversity research — with particular interest in products derived from the neem tree (Azadirachta indica).
The visiting researchers, Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi and Mr. Enrico Ille, explained that their visit was aimed at learning from NARICT's extensive experience in neem-based research and product development, and exploring possible areas for collaboration.
The Director-General, Dr kabiru Mu'azu highlighted NARICT's long-standing involvement in neem research, dating back to 1999, when the Institute was mandated to design and operate neem-based fertilizer plants in Katsina and Kebbi States. NARICT engineers, working jointly with Indian experts, designed and operated the first Organic Fertilizer Plant in Katsina before it was handed over to the state government.
Today, NARICT has developed a range of products from neem at its Zaria facilities — including organic fertilizer,
neem oil, neem cake, and biopesticides. The DG assured the visitors of NARICT's readiness to collaborate on further
research and product development.
The meeting was attended by the Director-General; his Technical Assistant, Engr. Bashir Inuwa; Head of Scientific and
Industrial Research, Dr. Saheed Ademola Ibrahim; Special Assistant (Special Duties), Dr. Nafisa Aminu Yusuf; and GM of
the Organic Fertilizer Plant, Engr. Jamilu Abubakar.
